Making “The Lone Ranger: Ride for Justice”

In early 2013, we were contacted by ad agency Mekanism to create life size replicas of actors Armie Hammer and Johnny Depp as their respective characters of the Lone Ranger and Tonto in the 2013 Disney film.  A scavenger hunt of sorts, the characters were placed on rooftops and locations across the country over a three week period, and the public was invited to hunt for them and post photos online.

Using mannequins as the basis of the bodies, we took 3D printed heads of scans of the actual actors, refining the fidelity and adding glass eyes, hair and  realistic skin tones.  Intricate beading and other clothing prop details were recreated, and the characters were mounted onto real saddles that were attached to fiberglass horses.
